Seminole County increases mosquito control after local dengue case — Windermere Health news

Mosquito control efforts are increasing in Seminole County after health officials confirmed another locally acquired case of dengue fever. The Florida Department of Health in Seminole County said crews are stepping up ground fogging and larvicide treatments to target adult mosquitoes and larvae. Officials are also monitoring mosquito populations to identify where additional treatment is needed.Dengue can cause flu-like symptoms, such as fever, severe muscle and joint pain, and sometimes a rash. Symptoms usually appear within 15 days of being bitten by an infected mosquito. With Halloween approaching, officials urge families spending time outdoors to use EPA-registered mosquito repellent and consider wearing loose-fitting, long-sleeved clothing and pants.Residents can also help reduce mosquito populations by removing standing water from buckets, toys, flowerpots and other containers around their homes.Click here to download our free news, weather and smart TV apps.
